I was happy to speak to the 11th and 12th grade students at Ferrahian High School this morning. We discussed Advocacy Day and the importance in participating and how this is one way in which we communicate with our legislators about the issues that are important to Armenian Americans.
As students, they were interested to learn about the two bills introduced by Assemblymember Nazarian that the ANCA-WR is supporting, AB 695 and AB 1915, which would mandate the inclusion of the Armenian Genocide in the high school curriculum and would also allow for oral histories to be used as a resource to teach about the Armenian Genocide and other genocides.
I also shared with them the ensuing situation in Kessab, Syria and how they can take action, through the ANCA action alert system, to put pressure on the U.S. to take action and protect the Armenian Christian population in Kessab that is under siege.
